Intan Jaya, IDNtribune – Grilling stones or Barapen is a tradition carried out for generations by the people of the Papuan Mountains. As was done by personnel of the 330 Tri Dharma Task Force and residents of Bazemba village in the Intan Jaya Regency, Central Papua Province on Sunday (17/12/23).

330/TD Tasl Force Commander, Infantery Major Dedy Pungky Irawanto, S.I.P., M.I.Pol emphasized that the stone burning tradition held by the Task Force and the loval community in Bazemba village was not only done for friendship, but also as a way to strengthen the unity of the armed forces and the people.

“Through the tradition of burning stones, we foster a spirit of togetherness and continue to strive to build love in diversity in Intan Jaya,” he explained.

Yacob Sondegau, pastor of the Bazemba village church, expressed his appreciation.

“Praise the lord, in welcoming this year’s Christmas celebration, I hope we can all continue to maintain unity and peace in the land of Papua,” he said.

Hundreds of residents gathered and worked together to prepare the facilities to be used, starting to collect river stones, making holes in the ground and preparing the ingredients to be cooked. The activity took place in an atmosphere full of joy and a spirit of mutual cooperation in processing and cooking meat, vegetables and tubers.

“The tradition of burning stones is the oldest tradition in Papua as a symbol of brotherhood and gratitude for abundant blessings,” stated the Task Force Commander
