Tri Dharma Commemorates World Noken Day to Conserve Papuan Culture.
Intan Jaya, IDNtribune – On December 4 2023, the World Noken Day is commemorated. Likewise, the 330 Tri Dharma Task Force on duty in the Intan Jaya Regency joined in to commemorate.
Task Force Commander, Infantery Major Dedy Pungky Irawanto, S.I.P., M.I.Pol or known as “Sonobi Sejuria” by the locals, said that his personnel joined in commemorating World Noken Day.
“Since December 4 2012, the noken has been designated as a traditional work and world cultural heritage by UNESCO. The commemoration of Noken Day carried out by the 330 Task Force is a form of appreciation for Papuan cultural values. As a form of pride in local products and supporting local cultural wisdom, Task Force personnel also buy noken bag products from craftsmen,” he explained.
In this activity, apart from providing motivation to the Noken craftsmen, the Tri Dharma Knights also learned directly about how to make Noken bags as well as buy Noken bags made by Papuan mothers.
Noken is made by Papuan people using complicated weaving techniques and takes a long time. Noken has various motifs and colors that depict the richness of Papuan culture. This Noken bag created by Papuan mothers is usually used to carry plantation products, catches from the sea or lake, shopping goods and is often used at traditional celebration ceremonies or given as a typical Papuan symbol.
