Intan Jaya, IDNtribune.com – As a form of support for the local community’s welfare, personnel of the 330/Tri Dharma Raider Infantery Batalyon Task Force motivated the Noken Bag makers in Intan Jaya, Central Papua Province, on Tuesday (22/08/23).

During this activity, apart from providing the Noken craftsmen with motivation, the Tri Dharma Knights also learned first-hand about how to make Noken bags as well as purchase the handmade Noken Bags.

Sonobi Sejuria, Major Dedy Pungky as the commander of the 330/Tri Dharma Batalyon explained that the activity was aimed at giving encouragement to Papuan mothers who are fighters in terms of improving their family’s economy by being more productive and creative in making noken bags. “As a form of pride in local products and to support local cultural wisdom, many of the 330 Task Force personnel bought noken bags from craftsmen,” he said.

This Noken bag made by Papuan women is usually used to carry plantation products, catches from the sea or lakes, groceries and is often used in traditional celebration ceremonies or given as a typical Papuan symbol. Noken itself is one of the typical Papuan souvenirs which is a world cultural heritage. “Since December 4 2012, noken has been designated as a result of traditional works and world cultural heritage by UNESCO,” explained the commander. ***
