Yogyakarta, IDNtribune.comNahum Suwarsita, a painter born in Yogyakarta, held a solo exhibition in G-Printmaking Art Studio in Yogyakarta at 7-17 October 2023. This solo exhibition of abstract painters from the Indonesian Art Institute (ISI) Yogyakarta is entitled “Enigma”.

Opening the solo exibition, is Gunadi Karjono, from PT Vadel Ksatria Samudera Indonesia and Perhimpunan Karunia Merah Putih. When opening the solo exhibition, he said that enigma as an abstract painting is a freedom, for the artist and also the viewer.”

Therefore, he asked, “don’t be so quick to judge, Just enjoy his work slowly.”

For this Master of Commerce graduate from the University of Western Sydney, Enigma describes something that is mysterious, difficult to understand, or difficult to solve.

“The abstract paintings displayed by Nahum Suwarsita are a visual language of expression – the most important thing is the supremacy of pure artistic feeling,” he said.

Meanwhile, Heri Kris, the curator of this exhibition, stated that Nahum’s work is more in an abstract style without form and is impulsive. His expressions flow spontaneously without planned sketches or theme designs. Minimal brush strokes and more use of fluid techniques spilled onto the canvas intuitively.

“When he creates, Nahum Suwarsita always imagines everything he feels at that time. The paint used is acrylic with a water medium that dries quickly, making it easier for Nahum to assemble all the images that feel flowing. “The improvisation technique of overlapping colors makes his work more dimensional,” wrote Heri Kris in his article.

Meanwhile, Nahum Suwarsita, the painter, stated that he paints following intuition. He deliberately used acrylic material because it is more flexible and odorless.

“Indeed, acrylic is more expensive. “There are ones that cost a million, but we can get around it with cheaper ingredients but still maintain the quality,” he said.

He intended that this solo exhibition would make his paintings more known and allow him to develop himself further personally. Although personally he doesn’t want to be famous.

This painter, who once exhibited in the Netherlands, appreciated Gunadi Karjono for wanting to collect his paintings, because so far only certain people, especially Europeans, wanted to collect his paintings.

“Pak Gunadi was the first Indonesian to collect my paintings. “So far there are more foreign collectors,” added Nahum.
